Independent Living Services (ILS) is based at Dorincourt in the countryside just outside Leatherhead, in Surrey.
Our aim is to help our residents improve their practical life skills, build their confidence, and become more independent. We actively encourage their personal interests and aspirations, and do all we can to facilitate them – whether it be cooking, birdwatching or an interest in cars.
Our residents receive 24-hour care and supervision, a full programme of activities and leisure pursuits, skills training, and input from therapists, creating an extremely positive environment for people to live in.
Each resident has a key worker, who works with them to produce an individual learning programme and a set of goals. All our staff help the residents to practice their daily living and social skills, develop friendships, and build confidence to make their own decisions and choices.
Dorincourt is unique in providing three styles of accommodation on one site:
- Residential rooms, with meals, washing and cleaning provided
- Self-contained flats where young people experience living alone, with a safety net of onsite care
- Group homes with en suite rooms, laundry, kitchen and lounge. Chores and cooking are shared as far as possible
We accept funding from social services, private funders and NHS continuing health care, and work with funders to find the best solutions.
Over the last few years we have pioneered a Residents Safeguarding Group. This is where a group of residents have been trained in all aspects of safeguarding and have then helped in the training of staff and Trustees. In our CQC inspection in November 2016, they praised the scheme as highly commendable.
